Boulder City, Nevada- Qingdao Qizhou Rubber Co. Ltd is about two months ahead of schedule in building its polyurethane elastomer retread facility for off the road (OTR) tyres, in Shandong Province. Qingdao's partner Amerityre Corp., which develops polyurethane elastomer tyre technologies, said in a 30 Jan statement that its Chinese licensee has an agreement to initially make PU elastomer retreads for three large-size tyres used in mining operations, using Amerityre's innovative retreading process.
Qingdao's retread facility will have annual capacity of about 10 000 units and use between 7.7 million and 16.5 million pounds (3.5-7.5 kilotonnes) a year of tread material, based on the production mix.
Amerityre also said that Qingdao has expressed interest expanding its license agreement to include complete pneumatic tyre manufacturing using the US firm's patented manufacturing technology and proprietary chemical formulations.
"We are pleased with the progress that Qingdao Qizhou Rubber has made on the construction of the facility," commented company chief operating officer Gary Benninger, who recently returned from a site visit. "Mr Zhang [owner of Qingdao] is extremely committed to bringing the plant into production as soon as possible. In addition, he's very excited by the potential for an expansion of the terms of the agreement between our companies."
