Münster, Germany-Raimar Jahn has assumed responsibility for BASF's Coatings Operating Division from 1 July 2006. Jahn will also be chief executive officer of BASF Coatings AG. In both of these roles, Jahn succeeds Jean-Pierre Monteny who retired 30 June 2006.
Jahn (pictured) joined BASF in 1985 in marketing and sales and worked for BASF's subsidiary Elastogran GmbH from 1988 to 1989, before relocating to BASF Mexicana in 1989 to work in sales for polyurethanes and speciality chemicals. In 1997, he became senior vice president of BASF's automotive coatings business in North America, based in Southfield, Michigan. Jahn was appointed president of BASF's Performance Polymers division in 2001.
BASF global coatings division had world sales in 2005 of of about Euro 2200 million. The division makes innovative automotive OEM coatings, automotive refinishes and industrial coatings as well as decorative paints, and also the processes needed to apply them.
