Shawbury, UK -- iSmithers, the information business of Smithers Rapra, has joined an eight-strong consortium that will produce a 'REACH Toolkit' to aid the European polymer industry in its implementation of REACH - the European Union's regulation on registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction of chemicals.

REACH for Polymers, a 30-month project funded by LIFE+, the European Union's funding instrument for the environment, will develop a toolkit to guide the user through the entire process, from understanding individual requirements all the way through to which tests to perform, registration and best practice.

The project aims to lessen the economic burden on polymer companies by providing knowledge, tools and techniques to guide them swiftly through the compliance process for REACH.

The first results of the project are now available and a report detailing trends, sources of information, current status and methods is now available to download from www.reachforpolymers.eu.

The REACH for Polymers consortium comprises partners from across European and is managed by Rapra Ltd (UK) and includes ASCAMM (Spain),), CASO (Portugal), PROPLAST (Italy), PEP (France), SIRRIS (Belgium) and PIEP (Portugal).
