Helsinki - The Reach enforcement forum placed particular importance on harmonised enforcement ofthe 'no data - no market' rule, to ensure equal treatment of companiesthroughout the EU, at a 14 /15 May meeting in Helsinki. A major part of these provisions will be theenforcement of pre-registration, which is due to start on 1 June 2008. Forum members agreed that a dedicatedworkgroup along with coordinated enforcement projects would address theissue.
This follows the call of executive director Geert Dancet for inspections to "raise awareness" and verify the degree of compliancewith pre-registration, as well as emphasising the 1 Dec 2008 deadline by which pre-registration must be finished.
Reach is the European Union's new regulations on registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction of chemicals, which came intoforce last year.
The Reach forum on enforcement met to discuss its work programme for 2008 - 2010, as well as addressing these practical enforcement issues related to the Reach regulation.
The work programme also includes development of electronic exchange procedures for enforcement authorities in the EU.
