The certification mark is open to furniture producers or installation services. Any product within the furniture industry, whether final products or components such as polyurethane foam, can try to become certified, said the association.
To achieve the certificate, the cushions were subject to constant load pounding tests over 80,000 cycles of 750 N. The foam retained sufficient hardness and thickness to make it suitable for all domestic uses, private and commercial vehicle seats, and for cinema armrests.
In addition, both of the Recticel foams passed schedule 1, part 1 of the Furniture and Furnishings Fire Safety regulations 1988, as amended.
Recticel's factory was also audited by FIRA International. This was to ensure that all the processes and procedures involved in making foam flex cushion foam are suitable. The auditor said that Recticel has a good quality assurance system in operation, and that it supports the production process.
Fira International is a UK-based furniture testing centre. The Belgian foamer has previously won the certificates for its Foamflex Cushion Foam and Foamflex Cushion Slim in January 2016. It also won the accolade for its Aurora seating product in October 2016.
