Pembridge, Herefordshire, United Kingdom-- Rigid urethane insulation supplied by Kingspan Insulation enabled the main roof drainage on a Jersey development to be achieved without having to slope the slab or provide a screed.
Kingspan Thermataper TT47 LPC/FM made by Kingspan Insulation was specified for Checkers, Red Houses, an out of town supermarket development on the island of Jersey. Owned by CIT Estates, Checkers comprises a retail store area, associated offices, 12 staff maisonettes and underground parking.
According to a statement issued by Kingspan Insulation: "The unusual large semi-circular flat roof could not have any drainage outlets, and posed quite a problem for Naish Waddington Architects as the roof build up had to be restricted."
Designed for use under fully adhered single-ply waterproofing, Kingspan insulation claims that Kingspan Thermataper TT47 LPC/FM "ensures low heat loss through the roof, as well as preventing the build-up of rainwater. The latter can seriously decrease the life of a flat roof by subjecting the membrane to thermal stress, alkali formation and mould growth."
The manufacturer added that the product is light, easy to install, resistant to water vapour, and unaffected by compression inflicted in the course of normal maintenance.
