By David Barkholz, Automotive NewsDetroit, Michigan - Billionaire investor Wilbur Ross said today that he has agreed to purchase Collins & Aikman Corp.'s coveted interiors plant in Hermosillo, Mexico.Ross' International Automotive Components Group plans to pay $17 million and assume some liabilities to buy the plant out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.Ross' interest in the plant has been well known, but the terms of the deal were formally announced today.The 430 000-sq.ft (40 000-sq.m) plant generates more than $200 million in revenue annually supplying complete interiors to Ford Motor Co.'s Hermosillo assembly plant. Ford makes the Fusion sedan at the plant.In an interview today, Ross (pictured) said he likes the location and the Ford business the plant provides. He has bought distressed assets in recent months from Collins & Aikman and Lear Corp. to create a worldwide parts business of about $5000 million."
