By Liz White, UT staff South Bend, Indiana-US company Royal Adhesives and Sealants llc is expanding again: the South Bend, Indiana-based company said 12 Dec that it has finalised the acquisition of sealant and coatings maker J&R Industries Inc. of Wilmington, California. With this buy, Royal has nearly doubled in size since late 2004. Privately held Royal makes speciality adhesives and sealants-including commercial roofing adhesives and mirror mastics-for industrial and commercial construction applications across the US. J&R Industries has supplied both domestic and international customers for over 25 years with polysulphide sealants and electrical potting compounds for aerospace, defense and marine applications as well as speciality epoxy coatings for industrial maintenance. "This is our third acquisition in the last twelve months, following the acquisitions of ESC Adhesives in December of 2004 and Hardman Adhesives in June of 2005," said Ted Clark, chief executive officer of Royal, in a company statement. "All three acquisitions fit our strategy to acquire adhesives and sealants businesses focused on industrial market applications requiring added value adhesives and sealants," the Royal chief continued, pointing out that these acquisitions "have almost doubled the size of the company and positioned Royal for future expansion in attractive industrial markets."Royal's products include solvent- and water-based adhesives for foam and furniture fabricators, transport uses, marine and assembly applications and it has various urethane-based products in its range.In future, J&R Industries will operate under the Royal Adhesives and Sealants name and will remain in Wilmington, Royal's statement said. According to Steven Zens, vice president of sales and marketing for Royal, "The addition of J&R broadens the product and technology offering by Royal to further penetrate our existing markets, in particular aerospace defense and marine where we currently have a full line of adhesives and sealant technology for our customer base." Royal's product mix now covers high-performance products for markets including aerospace and defence, assembly, automotive and recreational vehicle, electrical/electronic, filter, marine, and general industrial. The company claims its "broad spectrum of thermosetting epoxy and urethane, solvent-based, and water-based technologies [can] meet the most demanding adhesive and sealant applications."
