Utah, US – RS Technologies is to open a new manufacturing facility in Houston, Texas to make composite utility structure products. These include poles, cross arms and structures for electricity transmission and distribution.
The company said its PU composites offer better resilience against storm and fire damage than traditional wood, steel and concrete products. The resins used in the composites are 100% polyurethane. It already manufactures its PowerOn poles in Tilbury, Ontario, and St George, Utah.
“The enormous challenges impacting the electric utility industry require rapidly scalable solutions,” said George Kirby, CEO of RS. “Our expansion is fuelled by immense global demand for resilient infrastructure while also supporting utility companies locally, such as CenterPoint Energy, to enhance its resilient electric transmission and distribution network that delivers safe and reliable power to the communities it serves.”
The new facility will employ up to 350 in its manufacturing operations, and at least 50 more to design, engineer and make the products. It is expected to open early in 2024.
