Huntington, West Virginia – The new SUR-fex SF water-based functional coatings from Rubberlite are designed for use in applications where comfort and breathability are key.
The company claims the range are suitable for medical, apparel, cosmetics, footwar, equestrian, padding and skin contact applications. SUR-fex microcellular open-cell frothed coatings do not occlude airflow, which reduces heat build-up and ensures comfort.
One of the products, SF100, is soft to the touch while maintaining flexibility. The company claims this gives wash durability, an enhanced coefficient of friction, thermoformability and no off-gassing.
SUR-fex SF200 is cured at lower temperatures. This means the coating can be directly cast on a broad range of flexible substrates, including knits, foam, film and foil.
‘[The products] allow us to enhance the surface of many substrates to improve functional characteristics for use in medical, apparel, cosmetic and general padding applications,’said Alan Fenno, Rubberlite’s market development manager for technical composites. ‘The open cell and “soft hand” characteristics of these coatings are unique and offer comfort and breathability.
