Wollaston, UK -- Scott Bader, a UK-based manufacturer of resins, adhesives, polymers and gel coats, including urethane/acrylate types, has improved its transport operations with the help of logistics consultants Davies & Robson.
Scott Bader's UK operations are concentrated at its Wollaston site in Northamptonshire, where raw materials are received in bulk and converted into finished product for delivery both in the UK and for export.
Transport is by both tanker and pallet and parcel carriers with numerous loads subject to rules surrounding the carriage of dangerous goods.
Scott Bader had identified potential efficiency improvements in purchasing and transport to and Davies & Robson was brought in to review outsourced transport contracts. The consultant concluded that Scott Bader's idea to centralise responsibility for inbound transport and vehicle scheduling and increase contract transport would deliver significant savings.
For example, centralising sourcing of transport is expected to save 15 min per sales order.
Davies & Robson also recommended re-tendering of the transport contracts, to cut around 5 percent of costs, and changes in the contracts to improve reporting, promote continuous improvement and provide a fair balance of risk between the resin maker and its transport providers.
Scott Bader's logistics manager, Solly Wilson said: "Whilst we were in no doubt that there were synergies to be had, having these corroborated by Davies & Robson's industry experts gave us the evidence and confidence we needed to start making changes.
