Cleveland, Ohio -- Packaging supplier Sealed Air Corp. of Elmwood Park, New Jersey, demonstrated its iMold, an automated vacuum forming mould for its Instapak polyurethane foam cushions, at the NA2010 material handling and logistics trade show held 26-29 April in Cleveland.
The system, which can produce 400 to 600 cushions per shift, is designed for low-volume or decentralised high-volume packaging applications, officials said.
The machine automatically fills an Instamate polyethylene film bag with PU foam, then draws it into the mould cavity - which can be made of HDPE (high-density polyethylene) or wood - where the PU foam is formed, cured and ejected in less than a minute. The cushions can be used on-line, or conveyed away from the moulding area for later use."
