Toronto - Bredero Shaw, part of ShawCor Ltd has gained a contract worth more than $35 million to provide polyurethane and epoxy pipeline coatings for Sabah Shell Petroleum Co. Ltd's (SSPC) Gumusut-Kakap Deepwater Project.
The oil project is located in the South China Sea, 120 km offshore from Sabah. The company said in its 25 June announcement that the contract, awarded to Bredero Shaw (M) Sdn. Bhd, will be carried at Bredero Shaw's facility in Kuantan, Malaysia.
The Gumusut-Kakap Deepwater Project requires 40 km of 18-inch pipe to be protected with Fusion Bonded Epoxy (FBE) and Bredero Shaw's ThermoFlo D polyurethane insulation, designed to cope with water depths of 1200 metres. Specialised processing equipment, designed by Bredero Shaw, will be used, said the company. Pre-qualification testing will be completed in December 2008, and after thorough simulated service testing, Bredero Shaw will begin applying the ThermoFlo D insulation by the end of the first quarter of 2009.
Bredero Shaw is ShawCor's largest division, and claims to be a global leader in pipe-coating solutions for corrosion protection, insulation, and weight-coating applications on land and marine pipelines, including those for deepwater uses. Parent group ShawCor is an energy services company, which specialises in products and services for the pipeline and pipe services and the petrochemical and industrial segments of the oil and gas industry.
