Toronto, Ontario - Shaw Pipe Protection Ltd will invest $11 million to construct a new pipe-coating facility in Camrose, Alberta, its owner ShawCor Ltd announced 17 Jan.
The facility will be used to provide what Canadian group ShawCor calls "technologically advanced internal pipe coatings and insulation systems" for users in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin (WCSB).
The new facility, scheduled to be completed in the third quarter of 2008, will provide SureFlo internal epoxy coatings as well as Insul-8 AG, a new high-temperature polyurethane foam pipe insulation for above-ground pipelines, the company said.
The company will expand its SureFlo range in 2008 to include internal anticorrosion and abrasion-resistant coatings, and "this new facility is a key component of this expansion strategy," said the statement.
Shaw Pipe is the leading provider of external and internal coatings to the WCSB, ShawCor said.
The company operates a network of six advanced pipe-coating facilities for North American customers. This expansion will provide the capability to process the new SureFlo and Insul8 systems. The latter cover both moulded and spray-applied polyurethane foam coatings for protection of the exterior of buried or above-ground steel and plastic pipes.
Energy services company ShawCor offers products for the pipeline, pipe services and petrochemical and industrial segments of the oil and gas industry. It has six divisions with over 60 facilities worldwide.
Shaw Pipe Protection is part of Bredero Shaw, ShawCor's largest division, which employs some 4000 people in pipe coating for corrosion protection, insulation and weight-coating. The business handles land and marine pipelines, including deepwater applications.
