London-Royal Dutch Shell plc has appointed Jorma Ollila, currently chairman and ceo of Nokia, to succeed Aad Jacobs as the company's non-executive chairman, with effect from 1 June 2006, when he leaves Nokia. Ollila has been with Nokia since 1985, executing an ambitious strategy and successfully restructuring the former industrial conglomerate into "one of the most successful companies in both the mobile phone and telecommunications infrastructure markets," said a Shell statement on his appointment.
