Washington, DC – US refrigerator imports fell by 35% in 2021 to 11.3m, from 17.3m in 2020.

Although the number imported from China dropped by 2.1m to 9.8m, there were significant increases for Thailand, up by 127% to 511,000 refrigerators and Mexico, up 45% to 339,000 refrigerators.
Of the other top five exporters, Italy increased exports to the US by 217% to 168,000 units, and Turkey grew its share by 123% to 150,000 units. The only top five exporter to lose share was Canada, which exported 86,000 units, down 4% on 2020.
In December 2021, the US imported 931,500 refrigerators. This is down by 69.7%, at 2.1m units fewer than were imported in December 2020.
The largest source of imports to the US in December was China, which provided 789,000 refrigerators. Thailand, with 39,000 units, was the second largest source, ,followed by Mexico with 35,000 units. Italy was the fourth largest originating nation with 26,000 units.
