Baar, Switzerland -- Sika AG has acquired Duochem Inc., a privately owned maker of polymer flooring and waterproofing products for the construction industry, based in Boucherville, Quebec.
Swiss group Sika's Canadian subsidiary Sika Canada Inc. carried out the purchase of forty-year old Duochem, which has annual sales of about CHF 9 million ($9.5 million). According to Sika's announcement, Duochem "has built a strong reputation based on innovation and quality." Duochem will operate as a unit of Sika Canada and the existing management will remain on board, Sika said.
Duochem makes polymer flooring for a variety of industrial and architectural uses, while its polyurethane waterproofing coatings and membranes used to protect parking decks and concrete structures.
The products are made in Quebec and sold primarily to customers throughout Canada.
Sika said this acquisition will enable it "to further strengthen the leading position and the market penetration in the region as well as to improve its logistics and service capabilities."
