Preston, UK - Roofing membrane expert Sika Liquid Plastics has appointed architects Frank Whittle Partnership (FWP) to design a £2.5-million ($4-million) research and development lab at its Preston, Lancashire HQ.
Sika Liquid Plastics produces a range of high-performance, technologically advanced roofing systems and has contracts in the Middle East, Asia and Europe. Many of its products are based on polyurethane and polyisocyanurate materials.
The firm has been a part of the Swiss-based international chemicals giant Sika group since 2009.
This R&D lab is a major investment in its future and Sika says it demonstrates the group's commitment to its Preston operation, which was opened in 1963.
Sika says the 12 500 sq.ft laboratory will become a centre of excellence for new technologies.
The lab will be built at Sika Liquid Plastics' Miller Street headquarters and involves partial demolition of an old Victorian weaving shed.
FWP, one of the leading architecture and design practices in the North West, is designing the cutting-edge, three-storey facility for Sika Liquid Plastics Limited's (SLPL) operation in Preston and aims to submit a planning application early in 2012.
