Baar, Switzerland - Sika has announced the opening of its new factory for Sikaflex polyurethane adhesives in Duendingen, Switzerland. The new plant will establish 150 jobs on the 40 000 sq.m site. The company has invested more than CHF 100 million ($96 million) was invested in this project, the company said in the 6 June statement.
The new factory will have a start-up capacity of 30 ktpa, which will be increased to 60 ktpa following a planned second construction phase.
"The entire European market can be served with polyurethane adhesives from here," said head of industry division and member of Sika group management, Bruno Fritsche.
He added, "The new technology will reduce production costs considerably, technologically we've taken an enormous step, which will open additional application fields for our adhesives."
Fritsche also said that he sees growth potential for polyurethanes adhesives in the fabrication of buses, commercial vehicles and railcars, as well as substantial business in the construction sector, primarily in window manufacture.
