Toronto, Ontario - Surfactants manufacturer Siltech Corp. has bought Rhodia's manufacturing facility in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.
Siltech said the 113 000-sq.ft (10 500-sq.m) plant, situated on 8 acres (3.2 ha) of land, "is well equipped with highly specialised chemical reactors, bulk storage and rail road facilities." According to the Canadian company, it aims to retain Rhodia's 42 employees and continue to manufacture Rhodia's products under a long-term contract.
An announcement from Dag Enhorning, Siltech president, said the acquisition was "important for Siltech, as it offers large additional manufacturing capacity with highly skilled people, which Siltech needs for its long-term growth."
The company's present manufacturing and research facility in Toronto will continue to operate as its headquarters.
Siltech business develops and makes a wide line of organo-modified silicone surfactants and functionalised silicone polymers for the global market, using its patented technology.
The products are used in applications including polyurethane foam, personal care, inks and coatings, plastics, car care and many other industrial applications.
