Garden Grove, California -- Elasco-Inc, a polyurethane moulding and manufacturing subsidiary of Deltron Inc., is supplying its soya bean-based Biothane brand PU wheels to Sector 9, a major skateboard and apparel manufacturer owned by Billabong Ltd.
The Biothane soya-based skateboard wheels produced by Elasco for Sector 9 are "quick-turning, manoeuvrable wheels with size, strength and stability designed for high performance and controlled cruising," a 10 Aug Deltron statement said.
Elasco combines polyols produced from pressed soya beans with isocyanate and other ingredients to create new polymers. Traditional PU products are made entirely from petrochemicals.
Soya-based polyol resins used in Elasco's formulations reduce related carbon emissions from the manufacturing process by 36 percent, require less energy to produce, use sustainable materials, are free of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and reduce demand for and reliance on non-renewable petroleum reserves, the statement said,
"With the sun serving as the fuel source to grow the soybeans, the manufacturing process can reduce fossil fuel consumption by 61 percent," Elasco added. (RD)
