Seoul - SKC South Korea's largest propylene oxide (PO) manufacturer, will focus on what it calls "eco-friendly, energy-saving, and high-performance" polyurethane at the UTECH Asia/PU China 2011 show, to be held at the SNIEC (Shanghai New International Expo Center) in Pudong, Shanghai, from 6-8 Sept.
SKC, which has been participating in this show since 1998, plans to unveil 30 key applications of PU at its booth, No 510, which is to be the third largest among exhibitors from the PU industry.
SKC commercialised the world's first environment-friendly HPPO (hydrogen-peroxide-to-PO) plant in 2008 and has contributed to the development of eco-friendly, energy-saving and high-performance polyol products through its high investment in strategic R&D.
For the UTECH Asia/PU China event, SKC has prepared bio polyols (products made from plant resource like castor oil), LVS (a low VOC system) for minimised odour from various PU foams, AWB (all water blown) whereby water is used instead of other halogenated blowing agents in foaming, and PIR (polyisocyanurate resin) for incombustible, high-insulation panels used in energy efficient buildings.
In particular, a high-performance adhesive for secondary batteries will also be displayed in its energy-saving product line-up.
SKC is also participating in the seminar on technology to present its technologies related to eco-friendly car products and energy-saving products.
SKC's president Park Jang Suk announced the intention to strengthen SKC's competitiveness in the PO downstream sector by leveraging a world-class level of engineering and process technology in the HPPO process. In June, SKC announced its plan to become Asia's largest PO maker by expanding PO production to 600 kilotonnes: it will revamp its current HPPO plant to 400 kt by next year and build a second 200 kt -capacity HPPO plant by 2016.
SKC is also consolidating its position as a PU total solution provider by expanding production of polyols to 400 kt through plant enlargement.
