Yartsevo, Russia — Insulated pipe manufacturer SMIT Group has launched a new polyurethane insulation component plant in Tatarstan.

The group invested EUR 4.6m at the Synergy industrial park in the Alabuga Special Economic Zone. The SEZ is located in Yelabuga is 200 km east of Kazan,
SMIT’s plant is scheduled to produce 300 km of PU foam components/year. The company added that it also expects the new plant will create an additional 30 jobs at the industrial park.
The company said it has almost 20% of the Russian PU pipe insulation market in Russia. It added that this should hit about 40% within 1,000 km radius of the SEZ.
SMIT Group has two pipe plants in Yartsevo, and another in Mogilev, Belarus, occupying a combined area of more than 52,000m2. It makes insulated pipe for the heat supply, oil and gas industries.
The company claims to be the first Russian manufacturer to use cyclopentane foaming technology for pipe insulation, in 2012. This is when it started production of its Smitflex flexible pre-insulated pipelines.
