Joliet, Illionois - Solideal USA Inc. recently took over occupancy of part of a former Caterpillar Inc. warehouse in Joliet.
The industrial tire maker said it renovated the 645,817-sq.-ft. (60 000 sq.m) warehouse, originally built in 1969 for Caterpillar, and is using 122 596 sq.ft of space to accommodate Solideal's distribution requirements. The rest of the facility is vacant.
The site, which Solideal is leasing, features 10 new exterior truck docks, a new drive-in door and 10 new trailer parking stalls.
The company, a subsidiary of Solideal International SA, said it decided to consolidate its Harvey and Rockford, Illinois, locations into one facility and chose Joliet because of its close proximity to Chicago and easy access to Interstates 55 and 80. The remodeled facility is one of four major distribution centres the company operates across the US.
