Abu Dhabi, UAE – Honeywell is using a Covestro system featuring its Solstice LBA in spray foam roof insulation in its new office complex in Masdar City, Abu Dhabi.
Honeywell said its product is durable in extremely hot climates and meets the UAE capital's ‘stringent environmental and building regulations.’
Amir Naqiv, regional market leader said: ‘The Middle East is an Article 5 region under the Montreal Protocol and, currently, HCFCs are being phased out.’
He added that there is an opportunity for the region to ‘leapfrog directly from HCFC blowing agents to HFO technology that is more environmentally friendly than alternatives.’
This is the first use of the blowing agent in the Middle East, he added. Ground was broken for Masdar City in 2008, and it is designed to be highly sustainable with significantly lower water and energy consumption than conventionally designed settlements.
