Friedrichshafen, Germany – Two-component foamed polyurethane gaskets, which are suitable for 3D applications, will be displayed on Sonderhoff's stand at Fakuma this year.
The company said the new technology offers advantages over silicone and one-component PU foams.
The new material is called Fermapor, and is a formed-in-place closed-cell foam. This can be dispensed at exactly the required sealing dimension. Sonderhoff said the material cures without heat or moisture. Its performance is designed to fill the gap between silicone and one-component polyurethane materials.
The new material can give the same sealing performance as other materials, but at a lower sealing pressure, said the firm. They can operate effectively at temperatures between -40 and 80°C, with brief excursions up to 160°C possible.
The material is designed to be dispensed from the company's DM 402 CC machine. In addition to dispensing, the machine can also be used to alter material parameters such as hardness, Sonderhoff said.
Fakuma is being held in Friedrichshafen, Germany, 16-20 October 2018.
