Strasbourg, France – Construction is under way at the new Soprema factory in France that was announced last year. The company makes thermal and acoustic insulation panels, and plans to kick off manufacturing activities at the new facility in 2026, according to French business daily Les Echos. It is also investing in renewable energy there.
The plant in Sausheim, near the Swiss border close to Basel, will have a capacity of 750,000m3 of PU insulation/year. The 30,250m2 factory will cost about €50m to construct, it said, and create about 80 new jobs.
Once it is completed, the new production facility will supply France’s eastern regions. It will also make insulation for other European markets within about 350km of the factory, including Austria, Germany, and Switzerland, according to senior company representatives.
Solar energy will be used in the production of the PU insulation panels. The company has already accessed state funds to safeguard renewable energy sources for the facility.
It will use funds from the state-run Territory of Industry in Ecological Transition programme. Along with several other entities, it will gain access to €5.1m to fund the solar energy project. Soprema claimed the facility will be the first PU panel production facility in the region to use such energy.
The company has more than 10,000 employees across 103 manufacturing facilities and more than 120 subsidiaries in 90 countries. It also has 23 R&D centres focused on sustainable development and 43 training centres in 16 countries.
