Rickmansworth, UK - Stepan Europe will break ground on its expansion project for its European Stepanol aromatic polyester polyols (APP) manufacturing plant in Wesseling, Germany, in Jan 2010, the company confirmed in a 2 Nov statement.
Already the largest production plant of its type, according to Stepan, the expansion at the Wesseling site will more than double Stepan's European production capacity to 120 kilotonnes per annum. The company is aiming to to have the plant operational by April 2011 at the latest.
"We need to be ready for the economic revival and the anticipated rebound in European construction," Stepan said.
"Despite the current global economic situation, we foresee exciting market growth for PU-based thermal insulation solutions, particularly PIR (polyisocyanurate) rigid foam which already dominates the flex-faced lamination sector and is fast becoming the technology of choice for the rigid-faced panel segment too," Stepan commented.
Stepan's board had already approved the plant expansion in the summer of 2008 but postponed the project until a stronger outlook could be seen in the economic climate. (RD)
