West Virginia, US – BASF and Stockmeier Urethanes USA have teamed up to make more sustainable polyurethane binders for playground and recreational surfacing. The Stobielast S binders use biomass balanced (BMB) Lupranate MDI made at BASF’s Geismar, Louisiana site.
Stockmeier Urethanes said that using the biomass balanced MDI will allow it to provide more sustainable materials without the need for reformulation or new production equipment. It will also help reduce the company’s carbon footprint, it said.
“With playground season in full swing across North America, we are excited to team with BASF and become the first US polyurethane pour-in-place binder manufacturer to forge a domestic partnership over BASF’s BMB isocyanates,” said Christian Martinkat, president and CEO of Stockmeier Urethanes USA. “This collaboration marks a significant advancement toward enhancing product innovation and expanding manufacturing capabilities in the surfacing industry.”
