Metzingen, Germany – Protective packaging specialist Storopack has added a new version of its Foamplus packaging foam with a higher renewable content. It claims this is the first PU foam in the packaging sector with renewable content that weighs less than 5kg/m3.
Storopack expands renewable content of PU packaging foam
Foamplus 5504RC uses a sugar cane-based polyol, and the company said the foam has similar material properties to oil-based alternatives. It is also CFC-, HCFC- and HFC-free, with a low shipping weight.
The on-demand foam consists of two components that, when mixed, expand to form a PU foam up to 220 times the liquid volume. As it expands, it takes on the shape of the packaged goods as it hardens, providing shock-absorbent cushioning and void filling. Storopack added that its high compression strength protects automotive parts and heavy goods.
