Tehran -- Nanoparticles of diamond could be used to optimise the efficiency of nanocomposite PU, according to a study carried out at Iran’s Polymer and Petrochemical Institute.
Mehdi Barikani's study was funded by the Iran National Science Foundation.
In the study, polyurethane was synthesised in order examine the effects of nanodiamond – found inside meteorites – on the physical, mechanical, thermal and abrasion resistance of different polyurethane-urea elastomers.
“An increase in glass transition temperature and crystallinity of soft segment polyurethane was witnessed after nanodiamond was added,” the study concluded.
