Midland, Michigan - Dow Chemical Co is responding to a toluene diisocyanate (TDI) leak, which started 25 Oct in an underground pipe at about 8 a.m. at the firm's Freeport, Texas complex.
According to a news release, Dow emergency responders secured the area to prevent the leak from affecting neighbours in the community. Company workers went door-to-door in a six-block area, telling residents of about 65 homes to evacuate.
The company told the residents to be prepared to be out of their homes for three to five days.
TDI is a raw material used to make polyurethane. Dow, which is based in Midland, Michigan is investigating.
