By Liz White, UT staff Corona, California-A US firm is offering replica armrests for customers with classic Volkswagen models. The Classic Automotive Interior Division of the firm, TMI Products, says it has introduced a new series of Volkswagen armrests, which are designed to replicate the originals in 1958-67 and 1968-72 Classic VW Bug and Convertible interiors. TMI says that the computer-designed armrests are made from brand new precision-machined tool moulds-not "splash moulds" of old original or reproduction armrests. The company claims this process "ensures perfect fit, grain texture, authentic appearance, wear and consistency." Users can get their armrests in 13 exact, authentic Classic VW interior trim colours, and the 1958-67 versions feature a bright chrome trim strip-like the originals, said TMI. "State-of-the-art polyurethane self-skinning foam, is used to make the armrests," which also have the colour moulded into the material itself. Corona-based TMI, founded in 1982, has more than 190 employees, and specialises in "development and manufacture of high-value, interior automotive components." These include seating, interior consoles, floor coverings, door panels, convertible roof assemblies, headliners and integrated electronic systems. TMI says that aftermarket restoration interior components are available for early Ford Mustang and Volkswagen models. Its OEM customers include Mercedes, BMW, Isuzu, Mitsubishi and Delphi. "
