Yamaguchi, Japan – Tosoh has started the production of isocyanates from captured carbon dioxide at its Nanyo plant, Japan. Construction of the plant was completed at the end of October.
The facility is able to capture 40kT/year of CO2, which is then turned into carbon monoxide. CO is a feedstock for the manufacture of phosgene, which is used in the synthesis of diisocyanates.
The Nanyo complex has an overall capacity of 400kT/year of MDI and 43kT/year of HDI.
