Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-Bayer MaterialScience llc, US arm of the German firm, has donated about 1.5 tonnes of its Desmopan thermoplastic polyurethane to the organisers of a robotics competition.The material will be used to make tyres for a kit to be distributed to high school students competing for the competition organised by FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), a body founded by Dean Kamen, inventor of the Segway Human Transporter.The competition challenges the students-supported by their teachers, local companies and volunteers-to design, assemble and test a robot that can perform a specified task in competition with other teams.
