Langenfeld, Germany – Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) is being used for external caps in new miniature shock absorbers from ACE.
Polyurethane replaces the PTFE bellows which formed the outer seal of the shock absorbers, the company said.
ACE was able to remove an internal spring from the new design of the shock absorbers. This was possible because TPU is softer than PTFE. Removing the spring increases part life, according to the company.
ACE added that the new shock absorbers are less shock-sensitive than previous models in the range. A further design change with the new material means that the new PMCN-range shocks can be clipped in place rather than glued.
The new absorbers can absorb between 20-136 N/m stroke, and are available in a range of sizes from 12.5 to 25 mm.
