Trelleborg, Sweden— Trelleborg A.B.’s Trelleborg Offshore & Construction business unit has acquired British-based Ambler Technologies Ltd., which makes composite materials used for buoyancy and insulation applications in deep-sea environments.
The purchase gives Trelleborg access to expertise and expanded production capacity of strategically important components, the Swedish company said. It also strengthens Trelleborg’s position in oil and gas exploration and extraction, particularly in buoyancy modules for Remotely Operated Vehicles.
Ambler is based in Rochdale near Manchester, England, is profitable and posted sales in 2012 of $7.8 million. Trelleborg said the acquisition is part of its strategy to strengthen positions in attractive and profitable market segments.
Among other products, Ambler also designs and manufactures molds and tools for the polyurethane and rubber industries, among others.
