Skelmersdale, UK -- Trelleborg, a global manufacturer of polymer and syntactic foam-based parts for the offshore oil & gas industry, is to expand its factory in the UK.
A multi-million pound, 3750 sq.m development will see Trelleborg consolidate its two Skelmersdale-based facilities onto one site, the company announced 2 Jan 2013.
At the same time, Trelleborg will also upgrade its equipment, adding new advanced polyurethane dispensing equipment and upgrading its current plant to make syntactic and static bending stiffeners. New equipment for making dynamic bending stiffeners will also be built at Skelmersdale.
"The investment into our site in the UK demonstrates our long-standing commitment to servicing the growing offshore oil and gas industry, said operations director at Trelleborg Offshore UK Ray Cann, in Trelleborg's announcement.
"As the industry continues to move towards ever-more demanding subsea applications, it becomes even more essential that we are best placed to meet their growing demands, not only in terms of capacity, but in terms of developing innovative, cost-effective solutions that provide the utmost quality and performance," Cann added.
He feels the current investment will "further boost to our ability" to develop ground-breaking products for the offshore industry, and "help ensure we have the most advanced global manufacturing network possible, in order to service our increasingly multinational customer base."
The expansion and renovation of Trelleborg's Skelmersdale manufacturing facility will be carried out by contractor Globe Construction, who will work with structural engineers Clancy Consulting and architects Charter Design.
The work will include a 3716 sq.m steel-frame extension to an existing factory building, above and below ground drainage systems, external and internal doors, installation of all electrical requirements, internal finishes, heating and compressed air systems and extensive external works.
