London – The UK government announced that it plans to consult on new fire safety standards for furniture in early 2022, and is asking for help with a preliminary impact assessment.
It would like help to understand the costs of:
- Types of flammability testing, such as composite testing of both the final product for ignition resistance, and component testing the fire resistance of the filling and cover separately.
- The cost of holding records for 10 years, including chemical flame retardants.
- Labelling chemical flame retardants.

The UK Office for Product Safety and Standards, which is part of the UK government’s department for business, enterprise and industrial strategy, said that the information from the survey will be used to strengthen the base of evidence and help to refine proposals for the policy.
Comments will be anonymous and, once processed, individual responses will be deleted.
