Decatur, Alabama - The Decatur plant of United Foam, a UFP Technologies' unit, has added new equipment, improved its material selection, reconfigured its floor plan and become ISO 9001 and 14001 compliant.
These improvements mean that the Decatur facility can offer better overall quality and service, the company said in a 23 Feb statement.
United Foam has added new polyurethane equipment to increase its ability to make foam packaging for electronic, industrial and consumer uses. Decatur also has new contour-cutting equipment to fabricate large shapes out of PU and polyethylene foams.
In addition, improved foam-routing means the company can offer fast prototyping as well as, "production runs benefiting case insert and military projects," United Foam said.
As a result, United Foam has added materials to its "already vast selection," the group said. The new contour cutter allows it to handle more plank densities and sizes of polyethylene foams, and thus allows it to serve additional markets and uses in automotive, electronics packaging and deep-draw case inserts.
Another UFP Technologies brand, United Case, has given the Alabama operation access to its large supply of cases and foam materials. Case Fit 260, a proprietary foam designed solely for fabricating case inserts, can be cut to any shape to provide the best interior protection for cases, United Foam said. Together with the improved routing, United Foam Alabama said this means it can provide superior case insert work for many applications. These include gun and rifle cases, sales presentation kits, protection for military weapons systems and electronic equipment.
Another change, its reconfigured floor plan, allows United Foam to practice lean manufacturing. This has improved material flow; provided faster turnaround on projects; and helped reduce material waste. Having become ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 compliant, the plant is now also working towards certification.
