Brussels -- Chemicals distributor Univar has set up a new European coatings laboratory, upgrading and extending the services, scope and reach of the existing UK facility in Middlesbrough, the company announced 13 Dec.
Univar said specialist technicians at the facility will create samples of product concepts for customers throughout Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), using ingredients from its extensive portfolio of coatings products.
Technicians will also evaluate raw materials, test specific coating-related problems and enable customers to see finished products ahead of full production. These services will cut testing and development time and enable customers to develop the right product mix, saving time and money.
"The launch of the new European coatings laboratory enables Univar to differentiate itself from other distributors and provide an increasingly important and tailored service," said Sergio de Sola, sales and marketing manager for Univar's Coatings business in EMEA.
The new facility makes Univar, "not only a key source for coatings products, but also an expert in customised coatings formulations," de Sola added.
The laboratory will provide services for many coatings market segments, including decorative, general industrial, wood and protective coatings as well as construction chemicals, liquid inks and overprint varnishes.
Increasing the proportion of 'greener,' natural products is a key pillar of Univar's programme, anf the laboratory will allow Univar's technicians to formulate products such as water-based coatings with lower health, safety and environment impacts.
