Washington, DC – US footwear imports fell by 78.0% in March 2020. In total, the US imported 122.0m pairs of footwear in the month. This compares with 555.5m pairs in March last year.
In the year to date, the US has imported 526.5m pairs of footwear. This is a 55.7% fall, and is equivalent to 662.2m fewer pairs.
The five largest importers to the US were led by China, which was responsible for 64.6m pairs in March. This number is smaller by 411.2m pairs than the same month in 2019.
The second largest source of imports was Vietnam, with 33.6m pairs. In third place was Indonesia, which generated 8.1m pairs of imports, followed by Cambodia with 4.4m pairs, and India, 2.2m pairs.
In total, these five countries accounted for 92% of total imports to the US. In March 2019, the top five sources of imports accounted for 96% of the total.
