Washington, DC – Imports of footwear to the US were down nearly 80% in the first seven months of 2020. So far this year, the US has imported a total of 1027m pairs of footwear. By the same time last year, the number stood at 4919m units.
Imports fell by 86.5% in July 2020 compared with July 2019. The biggest source of imports in the month was China, which supplied 102.4m pairs. This was followed by Vietnam with 36.3m pairs, Indonesia 6.63m pairs, Cambodia 5.3m pairs, and Italy with 1.6m pairs.
These top-five sources of imports accounted for 94.8% of all the imports in the month.
This is almost comparable to the first seven months of 2019, when the five largest importers took a 95.6% share.
