Maastricht, the Netherlands-David Reed, editor of Urethanes Technology and organiser of the UTECH conferences, and Paul Mitchell, publisher of the magazine, were both given Oscars by ISOPA, the European isocyanates producers association, at the opening session of the UTECH EUROPE 2006 conference.
These Oscars are awarded occasionally to people who have made an exceptional contribution to the polyurethanes industry, said Mike Jeffs, ISOPA secretary general.
The oscars, a multicoloured glass pyramid design, were presented to Mitchell, who accepted Reed's award on his behalf. Reed, who has been editor of the polyurethanes magazine since its inception and closely involved in organising the conferences at the UTECH events, was unable to be present as a result of illness.
Meanwhile, UTECH EUROPE 2006 co-organisers IPI BV and Crain Communications Ltd--publisher of Urethanes Technology-reported better-than-ever attendance following the first day of the three day event. Between 1800 and 1900 people attended on 28 March, said Tony Kenter of Dutch exhibition specialists IPI.
