Bayer chief agrees to address the world's biggest polyurethane technology forum in 2009
London - Patrick Thomas, chief executive officer of Bayer MaterialScience AG - the world's leading supplier of raw materials for the polyurethanes sector - is to make the Keynote Address at the UTECH Europe 2009 event, a major international conference and exhibition for the sector, running 31 March - 2 April 2009.
The organiser of the event, Crain Communications Ltd, has also just issued a final Call for Papers for the conference, to be held in the Maastricht Exhibition and Congress Centre (MECC) in the Netherlands. This asks PU technologists to offer presentations detailing the latest advances in the production, processing and application of polyurethanes and PU-based products by no later than 20 March this year.
The Bayer chief's presentation will set the scene for this major international event, and will be followed by a series of presentations in the morning of 31st March 2009 focussed on the issues surrounding the sustainability of the PU sector and its products, according to Crain Communications.
The main technical conference will open with two parallel sessions on the afternoon of the first day and continue over the succeeding days of the event, resulting in more than 50 technical presentations detailing the latest advances in polyurethane technology.
Papers on topics as diverse as new processing techniques, novel raw materials based on renewable resources, and advances in the fire retardance of polyurethanes are among the topics of presentations already offered for consideration, Crain added.
In addition, ISOPA (the European Diisocyanate and Polyols Producers Association) is planning to select a variety of specialists to create a full afternoon session addressing key issues including: an overview of polyurethane sustainability; users' experiences of ISOPA's safe-working programme - Walk the Talk; and the latest status of the European Union's REACH legislation (Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals), which is now well into implementation.
The conference runs alongside a major exhibition featuring more than 100 companies supplying raw materials, processing equipment and other services to the PU sector.
The whole event is expected to attract more than 3500 specialists, with more than 500 attending the conference.
