Maastricht, the Netherlands--In the 20 years since the first UTECH, the polyurethanes world has seen quite unparalleled change," said ISOPA president Nick Webster, giving the welcome presentation at the opening session of UTECH EUROPE 2006 in Maastricht, the Netherlands, 28 March.
Health, safety and environment issues have been pushed into the spotlight in these two decades, Webster indicated, highlighting two HSE areas in which ISOPA is active: product stewardship and the forthcoming REACH legislation.
ISOPA has great hopes for its 'Walk the Talk' initiative on cutting workplace accidents in the polyurethanes sector, which it is promoting at UTECH, stressed Mike Jeffs, ISOPA secretary general. Technical and commercial representatives of ISOPA member companies will be visiting facilities throughout Europe to stimulate active dialogue between managers and shopfloor workers.

ISOPA board members from the major polyurethane raw materials suppliers signed a plaque pledging their commitment to this programme, Tuesday 28 March, on ISOPA's stand at the exhibition accompanying the UTECH EUROPE 2006 conference. Webster urged the polyurethanes community to support this initiative: I ask business leaders to signal their commitment very publicly," by going along and adding their signatures, he said.
