Blue Bell, Pennsylvania – The North American market for biobased polyols is dominated by soy, according to Acme Hardesty national sales manager Dean Bostic, but the company is trying to change that perspective.
“Ultimately, it’s about performance,” he said. The company recently signed an agreement with PolyGreen Chemicals of Malaysia to distribute its natural palm oil-based polyols in the US and Canada. In line with market demands, the sustainability of the palm oil is certified by RSPO.
The company also offers castor oil, which Bostic says is one of the few natural oils that can be sold straight from the field without modification for the polyurethane market. “Castor oil is very consistent from one crop to the next,” he said.
