Charlotte, North Carolina — Three people became the first UTECH Rising Stars in the North American polyurethane industry, today.
The rising stars work for Dow, Quimica Valfer, and Romeo Rim. All have made significant contributions to their businesses in a relatively short period of time.
Simon Robinson, editor, Urethanes Technology International presented the awards. He said: 'The polyurethane industry of today stands on the shoulders of giants like Otto Bayer.
'Otto Bayer was one of the group that invented polyurethane, but Otto was not always a giant. He started somewhere, and I would like to think that if Urethanes Technology International and UTECH had been around at the time, then we would have recognised him for what he was — a rising star, along with other members of the project group: Hoppe, Hoechtlen and Weinbrenner.'
The first UTECH rising star is Jamie Young, technical service & development specialist at Dow Chemical.
Jamie impressed the judges as a chemist who is driven to understand the fundamentals. He has helped many customers and, simultaneously, developed new products to meet the needs of the industry now and for the future.
The second rising star is Fernando del Valle Fernandez, general manager at Quimica Valfer.
Fernando impressed the judges with his drive and determination in building a business that supplies a number of materials to the Mexican polyurethane market.
Matt Getty is the third rising star. He works as VP of business & product development at Romeo RIM.
Matt impressed the judges with his determination to make long fibre injection technology a reality, developing new products, and opening up a new market for his employer.
UTECH North America 2018 is being held in Charlotte, North Carolina from 11-14 September 2018.
