Pont-de-Claix, France - Vencorex, a joint venture between Thailand's PTT and Sweden's Perstorp is well advanced with planning for an investment in chlorine capacity and technology that will strengthen its upstream position for toluene diisocyanate (TDI).
The company has made a filing under the French regulations relating to planning for the prevention of technological risks with the local authority. Although the final scope of the project has yet to be confirmed, the local, regional and French authorities are likely to put up to Euro 34.8m ($ into the project, according to a report in Les Echos, a French newspaper.
A company spokesman confirmed that there is likely to be a new membrane-based electrolysis plant in operation next year but added that no investment decision had been taken about any potential TDI expansion.
