Heidenheim, Germany – Voith has expanded its range of sustainable paper-making roll covers, with the addition of the biobased SolarPress Green cover. The company claims to be the first supplier to develop a press roll cover made from bio-based materials.
SolarPress Green is a biobased polyurethane press roll cover, with a hardness range of 5-20 on the Pusey & Jones scale. The company said it provides the same mechanical performance as its standard SolarPress roll cover. It is certified according to DIN Certco for bio-based products.
The company said that the press roll cover combines resource conservation with good performance. The material was designed to ensure optimal dewatering performance and high functional reliability, even under extreme operating conditions. Its high chemical and abrasion resistance mean it remains durable and reliable, it said.
The high stability of the PU allows it to be used under extreme nip conditions. This enables high machine speeds, increased dry content and reduced energy consumption.
“With SolarPress Green, we are reducing the use of fossil raw materials and actively contributing to resource-saving paper production – without compromising performance and efficiency,” said Christina Bauer, the company’s global product manager for press roll covers. “Together with our customers, we are setting new standards for a sustainable future in the paper industry.”
